It’s headstand time!! Two quick disclaimers: First, it’s okay if you never ever stand on your head. The world will go on turning, and you’ll lead a very rich and full life. Second, you can always stop anywhere along the way. Inversions — usually incorporated near the end of a class — are an important part of yoga asana practice because they reverse the blood flow after what has usually been a long series of standing poses.
Headstand (Sirsasana) is considered a beginning/intermediate pose because you have a wide foundation and it doesn’t require a ton of strength to support yourself. As you get more comfortable being upside down, you’ll find that you’re hungrier for standing on your hands or your forearms. That said, you never HAVE to practice headstand! It doesn’t mean you’re “bad” at yoga if you choose not to, but — in this week of saying YES to things — I encourage you to step outside of that comfort zone!
