Basics / Getting Started

If you’ve never done yoga or meditated, they can be daunting, so here are a couple of reviews to help you feel more confident.

You’ll see the three tabs below. This is exactly how your course chapters will work, so click below for a little preview.

“Basics / Getting Started” Activities

Journal Prompt

Your only task right now is to get a journal you love. I’ve made a suggestion for one I like here, but just find any special book just for these next 12 weeks.

If you are not in the habit of keeping a journal, try to write a few minutes a day. For now, I suggest a stream-of-consciousness, no-rules entry. If you wind up writing “I don’t know what to write” over and over again, that counts! Once the cobwebs clear, you’ll be surprised at what might spill out!

If you have completed the journal prompts above, then simply let yourself write for ten minutes without any rules or restrictions. Consider the prompts, your previous journal entries this week, and just let your pen go!

Yoga Flow

Many thanks to The Mercedes Club, Hell’s Kitchen, NY, for letting me record these yoga flows in their gorgeous yoga studio.

Meditation

If you prefer to meditate on your own, unguided: In this meditation, we experiment with three different points-of-focus: the breath, the physical connection of our body to the surface beneath us and any tension being held in the body. If you're meditating on your own, perhaps pick one of those, set your timer for 10 minutes, and be curious about how easy/difficult it is for you to return to your point-of-focus when your mind inevitably wanders off.

This program is presented by James Donegan / JDFitNYC and has no relationship with Equinox, Mercedes Club or any other facility where Mr. Donegan is employed.
