This week, we dig a little deeper. In our Hero’s Journey template, the hero is exploring literal caves on his quest. What will you unearth this week?
Caves can hold treasure. They can also hide dragons.
“The Inmost Cave” Activities
Journal Prompt
- Consider the people and events of your life that brought you here. Who helped shape you into the kind of person who would sign up for a course like this? Family members. Teachers. Mentors. Friends. They all played a role, but so did bullies, nay-sayers and the more — ahem — challenging folks in your life. Stream-of-consciousness style, make a list and see if you can offer gratitude to the “easy” folks and the more difficult ones.
- Is there a part of this quest — now that we’re around the halfway point — that has seemed especially difficult to you? Sitting still for meditation? Holding a plank or downward facing dog? Actually carving out time to journal? (You’re doing it now! YAY!) Why do you think it’s so tough? What stories do you tell yourself about this difficulty? Please recognize that they’re just that: stories. You can lead a very happily fulfilled life and never be “good” at any of these things, so who cares about that?! Why do you think you’re so hard on yourself?
If you have completed the journal prompts above, then simply let yourself write for ten minutes without any rules or restrictions. Consider the prompts, your previous journal entries this week, and just let your pen go!
Yoga Flow
Recommended: have two yoga blocks handy. If you don’t have yoga blocks, two books of approximately equal height will do.
Many thanks to The Mercedes Club, Hell’s Kitchen, NY, for letting me record these yoga flows in their gorgeous yoga studio.
