Hello, friends. Whether you’re reading this on January 1 or you’re coming to Daily Flow Yoga + Meditation because you’ve decided you’d like to deepen or explore a daily mindfulness practice, WELCOME!
It’s a new year! While you’re not technically a different person than you were yesterday, it’s the ideal time for a fresh start and re-assess.
I don’t believe in resolutions. I gave them up years ago because I felt like I was setting a bar that might prove impossible to achieve. Instead, I embrace intention-setting.
How do you want to show up?
Every single day — but especially at organic “turning points” like a new year / month / week — you get to decide how you’re going to show up for yourself and the folks you care about. So in our videos this week, we set the foundation for all that is to come. You’re not obligated to do everything, to do the videos on their specified days.
I just know, for myself, that I respond really well to clear structure. So, that’s what I’ve created.
How long will this “program” be?
It is my intention to keep creating daily videos for the calendar year 2024, but I also give myself the grace to know that the project will evolve, so please let me know how you’re using it and if there are things that would help you meet your own intention!
Welcome
For 2024, I am pleased to announce a new mission for Daily Flow : brief, daily mindfulness practices (yoga + meditation + intention / journaling) to help each of us find our own way to more mindful, intentional lives.
Monday : Setting Intention
Whether it’s for the entire year ahead or just for the next day / week / hour, setting intention (in written form) is simple and powerful way to ground yourself in something specific you can reflect on anytime you need to.
Tuesday : Slow Flow
On Tuesdays, I’ll offer an easy/beginner gentle yoga sequence that starts with something you can do seated in a chair or standing on both feet for people of most fitness levels. The focus is on releasing whatever you might be holding on to from last night’s sleep or sitting at keyboard all day.
Wednesday : Meditation
On Wednesdays, we meditate. I have no formal training as a meditation teacher, but I’ve been doing it for a long time and stand on the shoulders of some giants with whom I’ve practiced either virtually or in person. Ultimately, all of this is in service of being comfortable being in our own thoughts / skins every moment.
Thursday : Mindful Hack
Thursdays and Sundays are short (minute-ish) videos. Not everything has to be a deliberate, sit-and-be-still meditation. There are countless easy ways to drop in wherever and whenever you need to take a breath and re-engage.
Friday : Athletic Flow
On Fridays, we’ll practice a more traditional vinyasa flow that, while not “advanced,” assumes you’re comfortable with basic asana practice. By linking breath and movement, we increase the heart rate, open up spaces where we’re blocked and let the prana (energy) flow!
Saturday : Meditation
I created this meditation with people who’ve never meditated or who think they “can’t.” Frankly, it’s always (every time) about going back to the basics. Returning to breath. Returning to sensation. Being present with the present. Even the most seasoned/advanced meditators tell us that these simple anchors are the key to a lifetime of practice.
Sunday : Reflection
Sundays I offer a brief quote or nugget of wisdom I’ve stumbled across that I find inspiring or grounding. This week’s is from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s book of essays, Nature. He encourages us to find our own faith / tradition / practice. How many of us just kind-of mindfully believe what our parents did?
